As my very first post on richiegarard.com, I thought that it would be appropriate to name this blog ‘Getting Started’ after the ‘paralysis by analysis’ that I have gone through in getting this first post completed.
It is often all too easy to get caught up in the details. Caught up in spending hours (even days or weeks) over analysing and sweating the small stuff instead of focusing on real ‘meat’ of the project. I know that the essence of this is procrastination instead of just taking action and getting started on the most critical part of the project. In my case, it was obsessing about choosing a domain name and if I should use my own name as the URL, which led to hours of inaction spent thinking and researching on the Internet.
The truth is that no matter what new project or venture you have on your plate, the most important thing to do is to actually start and take action, because nothing gets accomplished by just sitting on the sidelines dreaming. The second most important thing to do is to let go of the idea of perfection and to simply complete it, no matter how bad you think it is. Get comfortable with the thought that your first attempt is going to be far from perfect and aim for 80% perfection, 100% completion. You will then have the feedback to go back and make your corrections and the opportunity to improve on your next attempt.
So this is my first blog attempt and my first step in taking action and getting started.
Just by doing this, I have already made progress and reached an important milestone. I am a huge step ahead of where I was yesterday (which was just having the idea of starting my blog) and I also have this as my marker of where I started from.
This blog is about me. My life, my passions and my struggles. It is an outlet as well as a journal and I hope you enjoy it.
